(216) 385-5028[email protected]Questions we get asked.
- What is tuckpointing and does my building need it?
- It is replacing the failed mortar between bricks. Mortar is designed to decay before the brick does, so repointing is normal maintenance on older Cleveland buildings rather than a sign of a fault.
- Do you do concrete as well as brick?
- Yes. Walks, steps, porches and driveway concrete alongside brick, block and stone.

More on masonry
Greater Cleveland is built in brick, and brick built a century ago needs attention. Mortar is sacrificial by design: it is meant to fail before the brick does. Tuckpointing is the maintenance that keeps a wall standing rather than a sign that something has gone wrong.
Freeze and thaw does the damage here. Water gets into a joint, into a step, into a sidewalk flag, and then spends every winter expanding. By the time a porch is visibly moving, the water got in several seasons earlier. The repair is nearly always cheaper the year you notice it.
Steps, walks, porches and handrails are also the masonry items that appear on point of sale reports, because they are the ones an inspector can see and trip on. Cracked or settled walks and loose steps are routine write ups across the county.
We work on brick, block, stone and concrete, from a section of failed tuckpointing through to rebuilding a porch or taking a foundation problem apart and putting it right.
